!Bienvenida! Welcome!

¡Hola! and welcome to Walking in Spanish Shoes, a blog featuring my thoughts as an American living as a Madrileña. I've always been passionate about the Spanish language and the chance to learn about and experience different cultures. While many have already seized the opportunity to travel foreign countries and broaden their horizons, for me, this will be my first adventure outside the U.S.
During my time abroad, I will be living and working as a Language and Culture Assistant. I hope to encourage and inspire you to start and/or continue to travel outside of your comfort zone and experience the world. Through my blog, I will be giving you a glimpse of my daily activities, thoughts, and obstacles I encounter while transitioning from the lifestyle of an American to that of a Spaniard.

Whether you've traveled abroad before, currently backpacking in Europe, or planning to take a step into the unknown....I want to hear from you! If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to post!

Food & Eateries

Café & Té

I've eaten at this place twice since I've been here, and It's been pretty good both times. It's a chain so you'll see them throughout Spain, Madrid at least. The first time I tried the Crispy Chicken Sandwich at the location near Puerta del Sol. Of course It didn't taste like a Crispy Chicken sandwich from Wendy's in the States, but this is Spain. The second time I tried the Chicken Club at the Avenida de la Reina Victoria location. It was good as well, but I have to say, the first time was fairly better, because they had french fries! The prices were fair, but for some dishes, it costs less if you eat at the bar. (approx. 5 -10 euros)

Farggi

We stopped to get Churros con chocolate in La Plaza Mayor at Farggi. This was my first time trying the famous Spanish dessert. It reminded me of funnel cakes from back home, just without the powdered sugar and toppings. At Farggi, you can add chocolate, caramel, and/or whipped cream on top, but of course it'll cost you extra. I've heard that there's a place that serves Churros and is open 24hrs. (which is rare in Spain) but when I find it I'll let you know! (approx. 5 euros)
